In 1989 the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corp (MIDC) drew up plans for a 60 MLD water supply scheme for a new industrial estate in Nagpur. Originally 750 mm diameter steel pipe was being considered, but based on life cycle cost considerations the MIDC officials favored DN700 and DN600 Flowtite pipe. Flowtite pipe offered lower pumping costs and negated the need for any corrosion protection, including cathodic protection on the steel pipe.

The 12.8 km pipeline was hydrotested after completion.
