Over the past 30 years, more than 100 penstocks have been built in Norway using Flowtite pipe. These penstock lines are designed to feed mini-hydroelectric turbines. Most of the penstocks are installed aboveground, with upto 47 degrees of slope. This case study features three projects

This experience demonstrates the use of Flowtite pipe in a corrosive sea water environment. Also, the contractor on the Yanbu project, Dong Ah, bid the installation of the large diameter Flowtite pipe at 65% of the alternative prestressed concrete cylinder pipe.

The DN500, PN6 pipeline, in addition to being buried over a majority of its 5855 meter length, also passes over two canals and a railroad line. On the above portion of the line, 210 concrete saddles were cast every 3.5 meters to support the SN5000 pipe.

Since GRP pipe was relatively new in India, at the time of this project, CMWSA required Carbon Everflow to take responsibility for installing the pipe. The 800 meter pipeline was installed and field hydrotested to 4.5 bars before handing over.

In 1989 the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corp (MIDC) drew up plans for a 60 MLD water supply scheme for a new industrial estate in Nagpur. Originally 750 mm diameter steel pipe was being considered, but based on life cycle cost considerations the MIDC officials favored DN700 and DN600 Flowtite pipe.

This case study cites another example where Flowtite pressure pipe has been used to rehabilitate a deteriorated pressure main.

This is a good case study to demonstrate the use of Flowtite for potable water applications, and ease of installation even in a country with relatively low labor rates.

This is a good case study to show that PCCP pipes do corrode rapidly in saline soils, and that Flowtite pipe is a good choice for such corrosive environments. It also demonstrates the pipes ease of installation due to its light weight, Flowtite coupling assemble, and long 12 meter lengths.

The project was designed by Tehran-Boston engineers who specified the use of mechanical couplings for joining pipes. At the time, this was the largest GRP pipe order ever and represented a significant breakthrough in the acceptance of GRP pipes.

DN700, PN10 Flowtite pressure pipe was used to reline a corroded DN900 steel pressure main. The contractor inserted the Flowtite pipe at bends, joining pipes and then sliding into the existing steel pipe.

This case study features a DN600 sewerage force main, PN10, that helped link two drainage areas with an aging treatment plant to the central plant in Gersthofen.
